One time I had the good fortune of spending some one-on-one interaction time with Baba in His inner chambers. We were both in a relaxed frame of mind talking about things in general ...when I asked him “Baba, kya bhoot-pret hotay hain...?” (Do ghosts and spirits really exist?).

He looked at me straight in the face and said “Hain Ma, bilkul hota hai... unka toh alag pret ka duniya hota hai” (Yes Ma. Absolute they exist. They have their own entire spirit world).

And then proceeded to narrate a story:

There was an old devotee couple that used to visit him in Bengal.
One day the husband suddenly passed away. The old wife was devastated.
She had no idea what to do... where was the money saved.. bank accounts etc...
She came crying to Baba, who seeing her distress, said “just sit here and don’t move, whatever happens or whatever you see”

She agreed and sat still as Baba summoned her husband, who came over from the other side and spoke to his wife at length. She got all the answers and he finally left after she had all the information she needed.

But now there was a new problem! Baba continued “Ma.. usko toh swad ho gaya thaa... roz din aa kar bolti thi, mera pati se baat kara do..!” (Ma.. now that she had a taste of it, she would come to me everyday and request to connect with her husband...)


Baba had to gently but firmly explain to her that it gives a departed sould great pain to come back once it’s gone. And she finally relented ... stopped pleading every day.
