Inauguration of Sri Guru Mandir

Guru Purnima - 25 July 2010

Om Vishnupad 108 Tridandi Swami Sri Srimat Bhakti Sravan Tirtha Goswami Maharaj ki Jai !!

Bhubaneshwar 25 July: Baba's samadhi mandir, under planning and execution since his disappearance in 2004, was formally consecrated in a grand ceremony on the holy occasion of Guru Purnima at Sri Gouranga Ashram in Bhubaneshwar.

The Memorial, in its understated elegance and beauty, symbolises Baba in so many ways. It is for each one of us to sense and realise it's subtle quality, as uniquely as each one of us had a special relationship with Baba.

The entire function - beginning from the Adivas ceremony on previous day 24th August and until the end on the following day, on Guru Purnima 25th July - went off smoothly, without a hitch, and to those who have attended Baba's festivals in His presence, had His imprint firmly every step of the way.

The festival was attended by hundreds of devotees on both days; there was 24-hours non-stop Naam by 5 groups of kirtaniyas; there were talks on Baba and the significance of Guru Purnima; sumptuous prasad and lovely darshan of Sri Lakshmi Nrisingha Bhagawan and Baba.

Here are a few images capturing the key stages of the function. We pray that in viewing these pictures, you get a sense of the joyous and sublime atmosphere that prevailed on those two days.

Adivas ceremony

The celebrations began with talks on the importance of Guru and Guru Purnima by the mahants and acharyas.

This was followed by rousing naam sankirtan that went on through the night in the Sri Lakshmi Nrisinghadev temple

Then the evening aarti took place and after that the adivas ceremony started. (Click on the picture for a short video clip of the aarti).

A shaligram shila was brought to Baba's mandir and the Adivas ceremony was conducted according to Shastra by Acharyas. After the rituals, Baba's vigraha was revealed His presence invoked. (Click on the right image for a brief clip of the mandir).

Guru Purnima - vigraha sthapana

Guru Purnima dawned with overcast sky and rains. It was a pleasant day and one full of joyful anticipation. The puja ceremony started on time at 9 am with Sasha performing the 'sankalp' and related puja. Recitation of Srimad Bhagavat katha and Naam was going on simultaneously.

The main 'abhishek' ceremony took more than an hour from start to finish.

Just as the abhishek started, the 'kalash and chakra' on the top of the temple, which had been covered until then, was unfurled.

After the main abhishek was over, all the devotees got a chance to also perform abhishek of Baba. Hundreds of people lined up to participate and make their offering to Baba.

In the meanwhile, uproarious kirtan and aarti was going on in the temple. The lord was smothered in flowers.

Finally, Baba was decorated with new silken 'vastra' and bedecked with flower garlands and His aarti was performed for the first time after the 'pran-prathistha' ceremony.

After the aarti, while prasad distribution started, other rituals and havan were performed to complete the formalities.

Around 2000 people attended and honoured the 'mahaprasad'. The prasad had to be cooked again 3 times due to the unanticipated number of devotees. By the time the last person was fed, it was past 5 p.m.

Jai Guru !
