In the year 1985, to commemorate 500 years of the appearance of Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Gurudev Sri Srimat Bhakti Shravan Tirtha Maharaj conducted three padayatras following in the footsteps of Mahaprabhu.

The first phase, starting on 24th January 1985, was from Nabadweep to Puri, which took about one month; the second phase, from 4th June, was from Puri to Rameshwaram which took more than three months to complete and the third and last phase was the padayatra parikrama of Sridham Nabadweep itself in November 1985.

Lakhs of people, young and old, men women and children cutting across social barriers, participated enthusiastically in the padayatra walking joyfully all the while chanting naam, jumping and dancing. One can only imagine the logistical challenges involved, the unexpected occurances and other trials and tribulations that would have occured on the way and that were overcome by the grace of Mahaprabhu.

To give an idea of the scale and mood of the Nabadweep padayatra, please listen to the audio recording above.
